Rachel wakes up on a cold slab of cement to find her mother lying beside her, stiff and cold and slightly blue. Already homeless, Rachel now finds herself alone. She’ll have to make her way through the streets of Chicago scavenging food and panhandling for small change. A woman passing by drops a few coins in her cup and offers Rachel a piece of advice, “If you want off the streets, get an education.”
An accident leaves Rachel hospitalized and Child and Family Services are called in to assist. Rachel finds herself being cycled through the foster care system. Getting an education becomes her goal, but she’ll have to endure dysfunctional families and the bullying of fellow students to graduate. The odds are against her. It will take all her strength to escape her past and become the person she aspires to be.
The story is great, very inspiring!
I could hardly put them down! It is so great to pick up a book these days that is based on Biblical truths and morals. May God bless you for taking a Christian stand!
5 out of 5 stars—Very well written, I highly recommend this book. It was suspenseful throughout and I couldn’t put it down! I realized God is in control of every situation and circumstance and guides us to make the right decisions for our lives.
I just finished “One Pair of Shoes,” and “On Solid Ground,” and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I have found it difficult to put your books down. I just wanted to provide this feedback to let you know how much I appreciate your writing.
Book one of two. I thoroughly enjoyed this story written from a Christian worldview. The author certainly seemed to have done his research on various topics and places. At times, I couldn’t put the book down. Now to read Book Two: On Solid Ground.
I have just completed reading One Pair of Shoes. Cannot wait to read On Solid Ground.
